Adventure sports in Ladakh :

Ladakh is a great travel destination for adventure lovers and offers them a wide range of adventure sports activities like – trekking, mountaineering, white water rafting and others. Traditional sports for example – polo, archery, camel safari, are enough to make a thrill inside the adventure seekers.

Trekking : The rocky scenery of Ladakh offers various ways for trekking where you can enjoy outdoor experiences. It is possible from June to October before the snowfall starts. A trained guide and good camping gear are necessary for a trek. The major trekking parts of Ladakh are spituk to Marka Valley and Hemis Gompa via Kongmaru La. The trek along the Zanskar River from Lamayuru Gompa to Chilling via Konze La and Dung Dung La is next popular trekking path in Ladakh. Likir to Temisgam is other trek, which can finish in a single day. The major trekking paths in Zanskar are Padum to Darcha via Shingo La, Padum to Leh via Cha Cha la, Rubra La and the Marka Valley.


Mountaineering : Ladakh offers numerous exciting peaks for mountain lovers. Stok Kangri Peak in Zanskar, Kangyaze Peak towards the south-east of Leh and the Nunkun Massif, falls at the Leh-Kargil road are well-known for serious mountaineering. All mountaineer require to receive permission from IMFD (Indian Mountaineering Federation in Delhi), before climbing a peak.


White Water Rafting : The swiftly flowing Indus and Zansker Rivers provide rafting enthusiasts a great place to enjoy white water rafting. Rafting is done from July to September and generally cover the Indus river.

Camel Safaris : Ladakh is the only place where you can enjoy ride of camel which has two humps. Camel safari are offered on the sand dunes around Hunder in Ladakh.


Polo : a popular sport in Ladakh, Polo is played in summer. There are normally six men in a group riding on strong Zanskari horses. The game is played in exciting ambience with the crowd encouraging both teams. Polo game is also played at the time of Ladakh festival.


Archery : It is a traditional game of Ladakh and played frequently at the National Archery stadium. Archery is another form of festivity which includes – drinking, singing, dancing and others. Watching an archery is definitely a great idea to peek inside its cultural life of Ladakhi people.
